Hornist Danielle Kuhlmann, trumpeter Peter Evans, violinist William Harvey, violist Clio Tilton, and cellist Reenat Pinchas traveled to the Philippines from May 23 to June 22, 2008, in a project underwritten by Susan and Gerald Slavet. The project explored the relevance of tradition in the present by commissioning Krish Jan Pincaro, an emerging Filipino composer. CiH helped the Umajam tribe in Cabanglasan and the Aeta tribe in Luzon develop compositions celebrating their heritage. CiH presented lessons, master classes, workshops, and chamber music at Casa San Miguel and St. Scholastica’s College in Manila, and CiH horn player Danielle Kuhlmann performed Mozart’s Horn Concerto with the Manila Symphony Orchestra. For a more personal account of the project, please read the travelogue by Clio Tilton.
