This will be the first Cultures in Harmony project in which our community in the United States welcomes people with whom we have worked in the past in another country. From August 4 to 25, 2010, Onias Horiwa and a group of eight students and one teacher from Eaglesvale High School in Zimbabwe will visit the United States. We look forward to welcoming Onias and his friends to New York City and Washington, DC, and to making their trip enjoyable, productive, and memorable. Cultures in Harmony previously conducted two projects in Zimbabwe: Sound of Water, Sound of Hope and Give Children Musical Instruments.
We will coordinate many activities during the course of their visit. These activities will include creative workshops at Culturarte, a picnic in New York's Central Park with Cultures in Harmony volunteers, a performance featuring Onias Horiwa on mbira and Cultures in Harmony musicians in New York City, and workshops and other activities led by Dawn Smith and Ryan Murphy, Cultures in Harmony project participants who have been to Zimbabwe and now reside in Washington, DC.
